Parallel connection XP to 98 ?

I finally hooked up my old laptop drive to my desktop (it was corrupt) and can access the data via that desktop, but i need to get it off the desktop onto my new lap top. I have created a parallel connection to the other system and it says i am connected, but how do i access the files?!? The other drive i need to access is shared? I am so lost. I never had this issue with 98 & 95!
