PC Card Won't Fit

Question

This may sound elementary, but I am really having trouble finding the answer.  I have a Sierra Wireless AirCard 860 PC Card Modem that works flawlessly for my 3G broadband access with Cingular in my Dell Latitude D520 notebook pc (work machine).   This same card does not seem to fit the slot in my new Dell Inspiron 1520 home machine that I bought for my wife.  There is some obvious physical incompatibility of the card and the slot.  The plastic insert in the Inspiron's slot is kind of L-shaped, rather than rectangular.  Can anyone educate me on whether there is a new standard configuration in the 1520 for PC cards?  If so, I guess I am stuck with buying a new-design card from Cingular for the Inspiron (once I know what it's called).  Thanks,  Svenfran

You will need an ExpressCard modem (also known as a WAN card). contact Cingular and you will need to purchase a new modem, unfortunately. If you like, you can chuck your old card and purchase a caddy for your Latitude so you can use the new card in the PC Card slot. Or just leave the old card in the Latitude. Thanks, volcano 11 and phillipkoo2-   Both answers were very timely and on-point.  I guess I got caught in the transition between my Latitude, purchased in March 2007 and the Inspiron purchased in July 2007.  Stuff happens...

The 1520 does not have the older technology PC-Card slot and will not accept PC Cards. It has the new technology Express Card slot, so you would need a different card for 1520 - specifically an Express Card. Cingular (now AT&T) should have the new Express Card adapters, or you can get them from Dell -
