Phone Dialer Noise

Hello all,
I have chatted with Dell representatives and my problem is still not solved. When I connect to my ISP the dialing sounds come out through my speakers! I had to reformat my PC last night for various issues and then this started. Then after the PC finishes dialing, an "Afetr Dial Terminal" window pops up and I have to hit "Done" for it to complete the connection. Can anyone PLEASE help me with this? Thaks so much in advance.

EZ2BMe,

To turn off the modem sounds for your speakers, click Start-> Programs-> Accessories-> Entertainment-> Volume Control.  Click Options on the menu bar of the Volume Control.  Click Properties from the drop down menu.  Click the dot next to Playback.  In the white window, uncheck TAD IN or MODEM (if it is listed there).  Close the Volume Control.  Your modem should no longer play through your system speakers.

As for having to disconnect from your ISP when you are all done, changing this may be dependent on your ISP software.  Who is your ISP?

EZ2BMe,

Since you are using BellSouth for your internet, and you used the CD that came from BellSouth, the folks at BellSouth will be able to help you configure their dialer program to 1.  turn off the sound and 2.  disconnect automatically when you are done.

Dell Tech Support will not be able to help you with this issue -- even if you tried to pay them for it.

Hi Steve,

I went into Volume Control, and "TAD-IN" was already unchecked. I don't have a "MODEM" option listed there. As for the disconnection, my problem is this. When I hit my ISP's icon, which is Bellsouth, the modem dials it up, with the noise coming from the speakers. Then, when the connection is made, I get an "After Dial Terminal" window that comes up, and it has "Done" and "Cancel" as the options. I have to hit "Done" to complete the connection to my ISP.

This all started when I had to wipe my harddrive clean and reload Windows XP. I have no clue here. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as I have chatted with Dell Techs online, and they had me do the same things you told me to, with no results. Guess I am to the point of calling Dell Tech Support and having to pay for assistance..ugh.

Again, thanks for your reply, and suggestions.

Steve,

Yes, I'm going to call Bellsouth and the dialing noise coming from ym speakers. It's not that I want my connection to automatically stop when I'm done, it's that when I DIALING UP, after it gets through dialing, I get a "After Dial Terminal" window that pops up and I have to hit "Done" to finish making my connection to the net. Anyway, thanks bud for all your help. I'm hoping Bellsouth can solve both these problems for me.

 Have a great day!

Chuck
