Please help with my simple network

Question

I just got a new dell 8400 and am trying to add it to my network.  I have a linksys router that is connecting them too my dsl modem.  Both computer run XP pro, the internet works on bother computer.  On the athlon (upstairs) in network neighborhood i have both computers listed.  When i click on the dell, it says I do not have access to this workgroup please contact admin. bla bla bla.  On the dell (downstairs) i dont see anything in network neighborhood.  Both computers have different network id's and they are both in the same workgroup, MSHOME.  I have tried all the network wizards and troubleshooting on the computer but still can't get it to work.  please help me.  Thanks.

Are all firewalls (including the Windows XP built in firewall and anything form Norton or McAfee) configured to allow local network traffic? Steve

Please tell me HOW to 'allow local network traffic'? I cannot find it in Norton Internet Security. Ed

Which version of Norton Internet Security do you have? Do you have a manual? In general, you have to configure the firewall by putting in a range of IP addresses on your local network into the Trusted Zone.
