I dont think so it needs to be connected to the router via ethernet connection for the wireless network. Then set up printer sharing from the main computer which would be the desktop.Does he have the dell wireless print server with it?

No, he does not have a wireless print server.

Neither has he set up any kind of network link between his Inspiron (wireless) and his Desktop.

Maybe that could be the answer??

Or,   purchase the Dell w ireless Printer Adapter??

Thanks for the input

You do not need a wireless print server!!!  File and printer sharing must be enabled on the computer to which the printer is connected, the printer must be designated as a shared printer on the computer to which it is connected, and all firewalls must be configured to allow local network access on the computer to which the printer is connected.   The printer then must be set up as network printer connected to another computer on any computer that will need access to the printer across the network.

The original poster does not need a wireless printer nor a wireless print server to print to the printer if it is connected to another computer on the same network!!

I got you now i thought you were talking about setting it up as a wireless printer as in being able to set it anywhere in the house and use it.
