Printing from LapTop

I am using a EPSON Stylus CX 7800 Printer, which is connected to my Desk-Top Computer.

I have a  DELL INSPIRON !100 LapTop. I use this LapTop in the house using a Belkin Wireless card.

To enable use the above EPSON printer from my LapTop, I followed the procedure described below:

  1. Open Add Printer Wizard
  2. Picked Local Printer (not network printer) and turned off "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer."
  3. Selected Create a new port   and selected  Standard TCP/IP Port.
  4. In the field Printer Name or IP Address entered the IP Address of my Desk Top Computer to which the Printer is physically attached.
  5. Clicked  Finish to complete the Add TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard and return to the Add Printer Wizard.
  6. Selected  Manufacturer  EPSON  and Printer Name  EPSON Stylus CX 7800
  7. Selected   Do not share this printer.
  8. Selected Yes below Do you want to print a test page? and clicked Next to print a test page.
  9. Then Clicked Finish to close the Add Printer Wizard.

However, on clicking Add printer Wizard I got a message on the screen      E_DMAI18.DLL     file is missing.

So, I copied this file from the EPSON folder on my Desk-Top computer.

But, then it  gave the message for certain other files missing.

So, I copied all the files from the EPSON- PrinterDriverTemp folder from my Dek-Top Computer to the Lap Top.

After this, the missing file message did NOT come, but I am unable to print anything.

Everytime an Error Message comes.

Could anyone suggest what I could do to be able to use the printer from my LapTop.

Incidentally, I have WINDOWS XP Professional SP1 and  use NORTON INTERNET SECURITY 2006 on my LapTop.

If any clarifications are needed my e-mail address is;

  raj_verma1@yahoo.com

THANKS

Probably much easier if you were to add the printer this way:  http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/honeycutt_july2.mspx

Why did you select "Do not share printer?"  Don't you want to share it with your desktop?

make sure there is a hand under the printer icon on the desktop machine showing that its being shared on the network. then do the following.

ok go to the desktop and find the printer icon in control panel. highlight the name of the printer. right click it and choose sharing on it. then  find the ip address to the desktop. once u have the ip address of the desktop go to the laptop and do the following.

start then run type in

should look like this

\\192.168.1.1

then hit the enter key. your printer icon and folders should show up
double click printer icon and install printer drivers on the laptop

goodluck
