Problem adding 2nd computer to router

Have Dell dimension 8300 that has integrated 10/100 Pro Etl card that runs windows xp home edition and a somewhat older dell xps T600 (processor upgraded to 1200 with poweleap) running windows 98. This pc has ethernet network pci card.

The 2 pc's were previously networked and after some teething problems I have managed to successfully hook the machine running windows xp to broadband via the connection 1 of the  D link 504T ethernet router (using connection 1).
Have connected the older pc to the router on connection 2 and appear but cannot browse internet - page not found etc. Had this problem with xp machine and cleared this by removing previous static ip address i used when pcs were networked and telling it to detect ip automatically. Have done this but still having problems.
When I set up 1st computer via browser I clicked on connection 1 and completed all the necessary fields. No instructions on how to add subsequent computers so assume that you click the "New connection" button on the browser. Entered same info as per original machine but was told that VPI 0 and VCI 38 already assigned? Am I meant to input different nos for subsequent computers and if so what values - somewhat confused as to what to do - it would help if documentation explained how to attach subsequent computers etc!

Connection 1 The one that is working) is shown to have wAN set up of PPoA_0_38
Presumably need to use click new connection button to add next computer as PPoA_?_?
Answers to the ? would be most appreciated - cannot find any documentation to help, even on D Link's own site...

Haffy,

According to the product information on the D-Link 504T I found at the D-Link Australia site, the 504T is a router that includes an integrated ADSL modem for Internet access, and four Ethernet ports for connections from LAN devices. The 504T includes a DHCP server which can be used to assign IP addresses to client systems connected to it on the LAN.

The router itself need only be configured once, so I'm very pozzled by your question about VCP/VPI settings. The clients only need to have their Ethernet adapter configured with TCP/IP to obtain an IP address automatically. Neither one is involved in the ADSL VCI/VPI settings. That's configured in the router. I attempted to view a document called "Install Guides", but the link on the Web page is incorrectly formatted. I was able to track down the install guide by looking at directory listings from D-Link's FTP server. Here's the correct link to the Install Guide.

It is not necessary to go through the setup on the router for any subsequent machines.  Just create a new Network Connection that will be by deafult always on and does not require a password or username.  The router is performing this function for you.  Make sure you have the latest drivers for that router, it can be a little "testy" but does work good, or at least it does here in Italy.
