Hi cul059,

Open Device manager and see if the wireless card driver is listed under 'Network adapters':

  • Click on 'Start' and right click on 'Computer'.
  • Click on 'Manage' and click on 'Device manager'.
  • Expand 'Network adapter' and check if you see a yellow exclamation sign under the wireless adapter.

If so, install the wireless driver on your system. Your system is shipped with either Dell wireless 1703 or Dell wireless 1704 wireless card; you should be able to get to know the wireless card name once you check under 'Network adapters':

Driver for Dell wireless 1704 card: http://dell.to/XGtbV1

Driver for Dell wireless 1703 card: http://dell.to/YXWQcq

Install either of the above wireless drive depending on the wireless card your system has. To install a driver:
  1. Click on 'Download File' and select 'Single-file download'.
  2. Click on 'Continue'.
  3. Click on 'Save' and save the driver on the desktop.
  4. Right click on the driver from the desktop and click on 'Run as administrator'.
  5. Follow the on screen instructions to install the driver.
  6. Restart the system.

Also make sure the wireless is turned on.  Press < Fn >< F2 > to enable or disable the wireless radios. In case < Fn >< F2 > combination does not work, try pressing F2 only. You can also ensure if the wireless is turned on from windows mobility center:
  • Click on 'Start' and type 'Windows mobility center' in the search box.
  • Click on 'Windows mobility center' from the search items.
  • You will get an option to enable wireless.

Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

Hi cul059,

Thank you for the reply. Boot in 'Safe mode with Networking' and check if you face the same issue:

  • Restart the system and keep tapping 'F8' as soon as the Dell logo appears.
  • Highlight 'Safe Mode with Networking' using arrow keys and press enter.

In case you face the same issue in 'Safe mode with Networking' as well, boot the system in normal mode and try to disable the firewall of anti-virus that is installed in the computer and check the result. This laptop is generally shipped with mcafee anti-virus. If Mcafee is installed on your laptop, please follow the steps listed below to disable the mcafee firewall temporarily:
- Locate the 'McAfee' icon on the taskbar. This is located in the lower right-hand side of your screen next to the clock
- Right click 'Mcafee' icon and go to 'Settings'
- Click 'Firewall' (Following screen appears)

- Click 'Settings'
- Turn off the 'Mcafee firewall' (Select 15 minutes)
- Click 'Done'
- Re-check the 'internet access'
- If 'Internet works, repeat the same steps to launch Mcafee firewall' interface
- Click 'Turn On' (following screen appears)

- Click 'Restore Defaults' and re-try  to connect to the wireless Internet.

Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

Hi cul059,

Thank you for the reply. I will recommend you to delete the wireless profiles on your system:

This issue also occurs when the profile goes corrupt. Please follow the steps listed below:
- Open the Network and Sharing Center. There, on the left side column, click on "Manage wireless networks" (Following screen appears)

- In the 'Manage Wireless Networks' window, you can see the profiles of all the wireless networks which were connected in the past.
- Select the network with which you are facing trouble, and click 'Remove'

- Confirm that you want to remove the network profile. The profile of the wireless network is now deleted. Windows will detect that network as if it was a new discovery and you will be able to enter all the details again and connect to it.

In case the issue still persists, follow the below steps:

Note: You may find few following mentioned settings missing depending on the wireless card installed on your system.

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Network Adapters, right click the wireless card and choose Properties
    • Make the following changes
    1. Change 802.11h+d to Strict 11h
    2. Change Afterburner to Enabled
    3. Change Antenna Diversity to Main
    4. Change AP Compatibility Mode to Broader Compatibility
    5. Change BSS Mode to 802.11g Mode
    6. Change BT-AMP to Enabled
    7. Change Fragmentation Threshold to 2300
    8. Change Locally Administered MAC Address to 1234567890AB (This step is important)
    9. Change Minimum Power Consumption to Disabled
    10. Change PLCP Header to Long
    11. Change Roam Tendency to Aggressive
    12. Change Roaming Decision to Optimize Distance
    13. Change RTS Threshold to 2300
  • Click the Power Management tab
    1. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
  • Open Power Options
    1. Click Change plan settings for the selected power profile
    2. Click Change advanced power settings
    3. Under Wireless Adapter Settings , click Power Saving Mode and change the settings to Maximum Performance

Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

cul059,

Download and install in this order...

Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family Mobile

Intel Management Engine Interface

Realtek RTS5179 Card Reader

Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver

Then download and install...

Realtek RTL8105E-V

Then go to Dell Warranty Status enter your service tag, then click on original configuration. Look and see which wireless adapter you have. Then go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag, select your operating system and under network download and install the drivers for your wireless adapter.

Then download and install Dell QuickSet.

Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled

If you still have problems, please post back and DELL-Vikram M or myself can further assist you.

cul059,

Use the AVG Removal Tool restart the computer. Did you run the McAfee Removal Tool after you uninstalled it? If not, also run it.

Then try to connect.

What happens?
