How are you connecting this to the internet? Is it a router? a cable modem? a dsl modem? or a LAN connection at your college? Is there any other place where you can try to connect and if so, are you successful at another location? Have you tried running the diagnostics on then network adapter (they are in the Broadcom Control Suite)?
I had a similiar problem. I changed the network card properties, and it works fine now. Right click 'My Network Place' right click the connection you have set up. Configure the network card with the 'configure' button. Go to the advanced tab, click 'speed & duplex' and ensure the value is set to 'auto'.
Steve - I am connecting to the internet through a LAN at my college. I have tried to connect at my house(where it worked a few months ago) and was unsuccessful there too. My roommate and others are able to plug in on the same wire I'm trying to connect with and connect to the internet.
On my broadcom 570x I ran the diagnostics test and they all passed. On my '1394 Net Adapter' though I did not have the option to run diagnostic tests. On my Net Adapter, it says my Driver Status is not loaded, my Bus Type is unsupported, and under Statistics everything is 0 or N/A if any of that matters.
To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.
So you know I am on a wireless connection but it is very slow and won't allow me to run most programs such as messengers. Here's the output from the ipconfig.

Is that the complete ipconfig output? It doesn't even show the presence of an ethernet network adapter. If you open Network Connections, is there a Local Area Connection listed there? If so, which ones? Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the ethernet adapter?
My fault, I was messing around with it and accidentally had it disabled when I ran the ipconfig. Woops... Also I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. Here is the useful ipconfig.

OK ... Let me see if I can be of any help ... first of all ... I faced the same problem.
I am in India. I connect through ADSL modem. My Phone Carrier that provides me with the ADSL Internet connection requires me to login using a username n password. Just plugging in the LAN cable coming out of the DSL modem gives me the same message i.e. Limited Connectivity. However, after I double click on the Network Connection that I have setup to connect to this provider ... it asks for the username n password and then establishes the connection saying LAN Connected instead of that Limited Connection message.
Another thing I have noticed from ur ipconfig command's output is that IP Address and Default Gateway are on different Subnetworks .... So there is some problem with that probably ... ur Internet Service Provider might have a firewall in between ur subnetwork n the Default Gateway n u might need a username n password to pass through it. However, if others can connect without problem from the same LAN cable then there is some problem with the way u have IP Address configured if it is static IP that u have punched in.
Let me know if this was helpful or if u have solved (n how ) ur problem. Thanks.
