Problem with C640 Ethernet Controller(BIOS enabled, system not recongized)

Hello Hi,

My friend gimme a dell c640 laptop without the wireless mini-pci docked.

I`m using a XP and 98 dual system. BUT THE 3COM 3C920 NIC was not properly recongized of both system(Only ETHERNET CONTROLLER recongized)

I downloaded the latest version of 3com driver, installed as the page guided.

BUT it still DOESN`T WORK!!!

Also I download the delldiag softwar,The PCI devices column only displayed ETHERNET CONTROLLER ,too.

and I connected the RJ45 lan,the 2 LED Both worked well,GREEN AND ORANGE

yet the BIOS lan controller is alway ENABLE!

now I just wondering the NIC was missed.?

Did you reinstall XP and Win98? If so, you should have installed the Intel Mobile Chipset drivers. The file is used for both XP and Win98. You'll need it before integrated devices on the motherboard will be recognized.

Since the chipset drivers should have been installed right after the operating system installations were completed, try removing the Ethernet controller driver and then reboot the system. Perhaps it will be discovered correctly after the reboot.
