Also on the new Dell systems there is a utility called Desktop System Software that must be installed before the chipset. Here is a link to the
drivers and a link to the
order in which they should be installed.
1st of all - don't be afraid of reinstalling Windows. If you want to learn to repair your software yourself - be prepaired to reinstall :-)
At this problem, most likely PCI device is a modem. Ethernet is what it is. Install the drivers that you can download from Dell's homepage and try again.
The Dell utility is not neccessary, just remember to install the chipset first, then prefferably the Graphics card, then - all the other stuff.
