Problem with Ethernet Controller and PCI Device

Hi
I have a Dell Dimension E520 with XP. I had to uninstall XP and reinstall, but am having trouble with drivers. In the Device Manager, both "Ethernet Controller" and "PCI Device" show a yellow "!" on them. Double-clicking them shows a window saying "The drivers for this device are not installed".
I tried downloading drivers from support, but they haven't made any difference.
Any advice appreciated!
Thanks
Corin

Also on the new Dell systems there is a utility called Desktop System Software that must be installed before the chipset. Here is a link to the drivers and a link to the order in which they should be installed.

Did you install the Chipset driver first?

look under Chipset then try the Network driver on the same page then the Audio driver.  Does that help?

I tried this with no luck. Should I uninstall everything first? I don't have to reinstall windows I hope...

1st of all - don't be afraid of reinstalling Windows. If you want to learn to repair your software yourself - be prepaired to reinstall :-)
At this problem, most likely PCI device is a modem. Ethernet is what it is. Install the drivers that you can download from Dell's homepage and try again.
The Dell utility is not neccessary, just remember to install the chipset first, then prefferably the Graphics card, then - all the other stuff.
