Problem with file-sharing
I am running two xp home computers using verizon online dsl and networking them using a wired(cat 5 cables) Linksys Router. I am successfully able to network my dsl connection but not able to access my files and printers from either of my computers. when ever i try it either freezes the my network places window or i get an error message on either of my computers stating:
The Network path was not found."
I dont no why this is happening but i think it might have to do with an error message i get when trying to setup my network on my dell computer in which i us the option to connected through a network hub which i think my router is? and then as i go through the process at the point where wizard is configuring my computer for home or small office networking (diagram looks like a transfer process) a error message shows up saying:
"Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
and when i i see what dat this error report contains its says:
Error signature
zAppName : SPOOLSV.EXE szAppVer : 5.1.2600.0 szModName : ntdll.dll
szModVer : 5.1.2600.1217 offset : 0002c32b
and in the techinical informationhe following files are included in the report
C:\DOCUME~1\DANIEL~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER67.tmp.dir00\spoolsv.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\DANIEL~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER67.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt
I am not sure if this is the source of the problem but it could be if any body knows how to fix this please help me as my forum name suggests,
Thank you

helpmeplease23,
The Spooler Subsystem App error is well known. See MSKB articles here and here.
To bypass that problem completely, abandon using the networking wizard and configure the LAN manually. See this site and this site for tutorials. Make sure the WinXP firewall has been disabled (as well as any other third party firewall) and check in Network Connections that your Local Area Connections have not been bridged to another adapter. Sometimes the networking wizard bridges the adapters in error (such as bridging an IEEE 1394 adapter and an ethernet network adapter.) If there is a network bridge, delete it.

Please use complete words instead of the slang. Trying to diagnose these problems is difficult at best without trying to decipher slang words.
NE does not equal any.
Have you tried just removing the nertwork components and just reinstalling them?

peggyf1,
More than likely you have to rebuild the network every startup because the wizard is crashing and therefore not ending normally. You can configure the network manually following the tutorials mentioned earlier in this thread.
If also suggest you download and apply all available Windows Critical Updates, if you have not done so already. That would include SP1.
Settings for the home and work network may be substantially different. There are some commercial products available that let you switch back and forth relatively effortlessly. You can see one at here.
If print jobs are in the queue there should be a printer icon in the WinXP notification area (the system tray in previous Windows versions.) Double click it and a list of print jobs should display and they can be cancelled. Without the printer attached this usually takes a minute or two. However, print jobs in the quque are normally lost when the system is shutdown.
Were you experiencing the symptoms mentioned the the MSKB article you cite? My D4300 is running NAV 2002 and the IRPStackSize is 11. I have not experienced any problems.

I am also having this problem. So far I have tried a number of things and realized that I have more than one problem going on.
There is a registry memory entry that needs to be above 14 in order to share information from one computer to another. After I reset it, my computers are able to share files. Information about this is in the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 177078 posted at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;177078
Now, everything works, but every time I turn the computer off, I have to rebuild the network. Every time I rebuild the network, I get the Spooler SubSystem App error.
I connect to a network at work as well as a home network. My new working hypothesis is that I have print jobs stuck somewhere that were not able to print from work. Advice on clearing them would be appreciated.

I've spent over 20 hours on this. I went through the detailed instructions on this twice. I increased the IRStack to 50 and finally eliminated the Spooler error but I still couldn't share. Then I disabled the LAN connection. (right click and click disabled). Then I reenabled it and made sure the internet connection firewall was not checked (properties, advanced options).
Finally it is working. I hope it stays that way.
