Buy a modem on the economy and get rid of the one they gave you. It is not needed. D-Link makes several modem that work very well in Europe, I should know as I have been thru just about everyone available.
The only thing you need to get another modem working is your ISP username and password. The modems have wizards that can walk you thru the setup process.
