Problem with Network Adapter after reinstalling XP
I had to reinstall my XP. I installed using a "Reinstallation CD w/ SP 1a" from DELL, followed by applying the SP2 from microsoft website. Everything looked fine, expcept:
Now my NIC is not being detected--I don't see the LAN Connection anymore in my network connection. The Device Manager shows the following:
Modems
Conexant D480 MDC V.92 Modem
Network Adapters
1394 Net Adapter
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter
? Other devices
? Ethernet Controller
? Multimedia Audio Controller
? Video Controller
? Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
(Note the ? before the entries).
I have tried the following:
1)Initially I did not see the Intel wireless; but I had remembered this device earlier, so I was able to find, download and install the approp driver. This device now runs but I am not seeing the wireless connection (even though the wireless modem shows authentication and connection), so the problem is on the X300 side.
2) Also it did have a
? PCI Modem
entry under ? Other devices. I was able to do some research and by trial and error found that it accepted only the Conexant driver. So hopefully that is good (though not tested yet).
3) And now for the important one. I tried to find what is the manufacturer of the NIC, no luck (without having to open the unit). I checked the invoice (see below), but can't find which NIC. Here is where I need some help. How to get the system to recognize the correct network adapter and load the correct driver.
thanks,

I uninstalled other upgrades as you suggested and applied them in order after the Chipset upgrade and now I have everything looking clean.
I have tested the LAN Connection, that works fine.
The wireless connection is still a problem, I need to spend some time with the configuration here.
But at least all the devices are working correctly.
thanks again
