Problem with two computers recognizing each other on a Wireless Network.
I am having a problem connecting two computers together. My Host computer has Windows XP Home Edition. My client computer has Windows ME. They are connected with a wireless router. I have had my network working before, but something has stopped my two computers from communicating. On my Host computer, when I go to My Network Places-Entire Network-Microsoft Windows Network-Mshome, the name of my Host and Client computers are shown. When I click on my Client icon from my Host computer, I get a Mshome dialog box with this message: "A7i3n3 (the name of my client computer), is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact administrator of this server to find out if you have permission. The network path was not found."
I am the administrator of both computers. On the Host computer task bar, I have two double monitor icons. One says: "1394 Connection 3, Speed: 400.0 Mbps, Status: Connected. The other one says: Local Area Connection 3, Speed: 100.0 Mbps, Status: Connected.
I have also Pinged the Address of my client computer from my host computer and that was a success!
I am thoroughly stumped and don't know what else to do. How do get the Host computer to find the path to the Client computer and visa-versa? I am hoping you can help me. Thank You

Is your client computer (Windows ME) logged on to the network? i.e. when you boot do you get a username and password box? If so, you cannot just hit Cancel to boot up, you either need to change the Primary Network Logon to Windows Logon and use a blank password, or leave it set to whatever it is now, but actually enter the username and password. Have you changed any firewall settings on the Windows ME computer recently?

Thanks for answering so quickly Steve!
The answer to both of your questions is No. Before, when everything was working flawlessly, I would boot my Windows Me computer right to my desktop without any steps in between. As far as my Firewall being changed, I wouldn’t know if they have or have not been changed. If you could tell me what the setting should be and how to check and change it if need be, I’ll look into it.

It's hard to tell you which firewall setting to change without knowing which firewall you are running.

I shut down ZoneAlarm and Wholla, my computers are now communicating. Thank you for puting the firewall thought in my head!!!! That's what did it! One more question. Is it possible to set up Zone Alarm so that it will alow my computers to communicate?

Yes, you can get Zone Alarm to work. You have to put your computers in the trusted zone. Since I have not used Zone Alarm for a number of years, I can't tell you exactly how to do that - consult the documentation that came with Zone Alarm.

I tried to set ZoneAlarm's Trusted Zone to low, but it still won't let me connect my computers, but that's OK. I'll just turn off ZoneAlarm when I need to connect them. At least I now know why I couldn't connect before, thanks to you. It's been great conversing with you. If I ever need any other kind of computer help, I'll be sure to look you up. Thanks again and have a great day!
