Go to Start > Run and type services.msc then hit the Enter key. Find the DHCP Client service and make sure it is started and set to start automatically.
That seems to indicate that it is strictly a problem with your wireless network device not a problem with Windows. I would suggest uninstalling the wireless card, rebooting, and reinstalling the latest drivers for the card.
As a troubleshooting step, see if you can connect with a wired connection to the router with ethernet network card set to obtain an IP address automatically. Report back what you find.
I have done that multiple times. I downloaded the latest drivers, once from the dell website and the other time from the intel website. The problem doesnt seem to go away.
One observation is that it connects to the network on DHCP intermittently. Sometimes, after a reboot, it manages to connect to the network...but this behavior is also not consistent.
Hmmm..........same here...even the tech support tried remote debug on my machine, but cudnt get it runnin' :( I have also tried searching other forums fro known issues but to no avail!
If your friends have the same laptops and the same network cards. Then I would suggest swapping the network cards with one of known good computers. If the issue follows the card then you know you have a bad one if you still have the same issue with a known good card then you know it is a software issue. If your friend will allow you to do this.
