Fishbone_Dovla,

The Dell WLAN utility is failing because the wireless network adapter is not installed properly.  It should be listed in Network Connections as a Wireless Network Connection.  There is no Wireless Network Connection listed at all.

Open Device Manager and check the status of the adapter under Network Adapters.  It may show there as not installed properly, and if so you will need to troubleshoot that.  Also check under Other Devices.  If an unknown network adapter is listed there the device drivers for the wireless network adapter are not installed at all.

The funny part is that, in device manager under network adapters, I see the wireless 802.11 sign, and driver is updated from network(LAN), the same problem I had with Win XP SP2, and when I turned on wireless, the wireless tab have showed, but in this case, the adapter is turned on, and still, the tab sign is missing, I`ve spend hours and hours searching for the reason, why this still won`t function... the efforth was useless...

Fishbone_Dovla,

You won't see the wireless tab if the Dell WLAN utility is managing the wireless connection.  If you want Windows to manage the wireless connection, either configure the Dell WLAN to let Windows do that, or uninstall the Dell utility.

Hi,

This message is similar to "No Compatible Hardware Found" message that we get for XP SP2. Follow the steps below and it should fix the problem for you.

1) Open My Computer -- Local Disk C: -- Open Dell folder -- Open Drivers folder -- Locate the folder for the downloaded file (format - R******) and open it -- Locate the file Setup.ini (Note that it is not setup.exe - this file icon is for notepad with a nut like image over it) and open it -- It will open up in Notepad -- Scroll Down to the bottom of the list and Look for a line that says PLATFORM_SELECTOR=dellinst.exe and erase the line from there.. Make sure there is no line space between WL-Config and Scan_for_hardware lines -- Click File -- Save -- Close the notepad file

2) Back to folder -- Run the file is.exe or setup.exe.

This should fix the problem here.

Rgds

sorry for reopening a same topic... I´ve tried everything and for now all my afford was useless. Now I have same problem but with Vista retail... I don`t have a wireless tab. since I don`t have proper driver (only generic vista driver) for my Dell 1390 WLAN mini card, I was wondering , when the Dell developers are going to build a proper driver that supports Windows Vista platform so I can use my wireless card without buying a new one???? Please I need a answer! best regards!
