Problems after installing True Mobile 1300 USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter

I have a 2-year-old Dimension 4500 running WindowsXP and recently purchased and installed the TM1300 USB Wireless Adapter.    I managed to network the Dimension 4500 and my new Inspiron 5150 using the wireless network, and was pleased to be able to share the USB modem that is attached to the Dimension system. However, since installing the Wireless Adapter, I have been experiencing regular crashes of the system.

What happens:

When I log off, the screen saver is set to come on after 10 minutes, and then 10 minutes later the monitor is set to go blank.  When I return to the computer, and select one of the accounts from the Welcome screen, the desktop starts to load, and then the monitor just goes blank.  Two or three times after it happened, a blue screen appears with the error message information.  It mentions an IRQL_not_less_or_equal and later in the message mentions Prisma02.sys, which I assume is a wireless network driver.  However, this screen does not always come up.

My device manager doesn't register any conflicts, and the system error log seems to indicate a device driver problem.

I don't know if this is the proper place to post this or not, but I hope someone will have some ideas for me.

Thanks

liz

This isn't really a reply to my message -- I'm still having the same problems, and am hoping someone will notice this message and give me some ideas.  Occasionally, when I reboot after this crash, there is a message saying a device or driver has caused a conflict, but it never says which one, and device manager doesn't indicate any problems at all.  It's quite irritating, especially when it happens to my husband -- he didn't want wireless in the first place!

LizG,

I suggest uninstalling the wireless adapter in Device Manager and then reinstalling it fresh.  The latest drivers for the TM 1300 USB adapter are here, although they appear to be the base level.

A search of the Microsoft Knowledge Base for "IRQL_not_less_or_equal" revealed these articles articles, which may help in troubleshooting the problem.  But first reinstall the drivers.

Thank you for your suggestions.  I looked for the newer driver before and didn't find it, but now I have.  I'll uninstall, reinstall, and if it still does the same thing, I'll try the new driver.  The date on it appears to be after I bought my wireless adapter, so that may fix my problem as well.   Also, thank you for the KB search result.
