Problems connecting to DSL modem

Question

I have an inspiron 2200 I have been back and forth with SBC and Dell for over 2 monthes now at first there was a problem with my drivers I had to uninstall and reinstall those I was finally able to get on line for about a week then I had a problem with my phone line, that is now fixed but I am unable to connect to the internet, I have three green lights on my modem it is a speedstream 4100 power,ethernet & DSL but no light for internet SBC says it something with dell because I am not getting an IP address it is 0.0.0.0. I got on the phone with dell and they said that my network card is fine and my drivers are installed correctly. so at this point I have no Idea what to do. PLEASE HELP

When dealing with SBC you need to remember that they what is called a PPOE. This stands for Point to Point Over Ethernet. By this I mean you will need to sign in to their service before you will receive an IP addy. Next time you can get your computer all hooked up call SBC and asked for second level support. They will be able to do a 'Manual' Setup to conect to thier servers. Please ask for help in setting up a connection that will pass your username and password without prompting you. They should know what that means. Good luck

Thank you fugitive!!!!! That was exactly what needed to be done. I can't imagine how much more stuff I would have went through to figure that out. Thanks alot for the feedback, I am finally online.
