problems installing dsl perhaps due to malfunction with internet explorer
I've been trying to install sbc dsl on my dimension 8400 but it nevers completes installation. sbc try to help me but couldn't because my internet browser kept closing itself. call dell and they won't help me unless I pay an obsene amount of money. Does anyone know whats wrong?

With either cable (Mediacom) or dsl (BellSouth) I have plugged in the modem and router, restarted the computer, modem and router and it worked. In the case of cable the first time I opened Internet Explorer it took me to a Mediacom registration page to register the equipment and bingo, it registered and it worked. I don't recall doing that for the BellSouth dsl, but even so, there was no software necessary. As to setting up the e-mail account, I did that through the outlook express mail account settings, which you will need to know but these are generally available on the web site or they will tell you if you call. For me it was quite simple and worked immediately with all four accounts.
I can't speak for SBC obviously. If they have you change settings and you still can't connect something is not right. Perhaps someone else here can explain why Internet Explorer would close on its own.
