Problems Staying Connected to the Wireless Router

I have a XPS M140 laptop with the internal wireless card. My router is by Netgear. Anytime I go to a site with pictures, such as myspace or even some retail sites, my connection drops. I am forever getting up to reset the router so I can reconnect again.

My router software is up to date. And a few weeks ago I spent a few hours with Dell on the phone trying to fix the problem. The rep updated me to the newest version of Intel Proset/Wireless but it didn't fix my problem.  I am tempted to buy a new router but if that isn't the issue, I'd rather not spend the money.

Anyone  know why this is happening?

Thanks!

First, you need to determine whether this is a software or hardware issue before you go purchase any new hardware. What are the specifics to your network?(modem, router,  OS running on computer, etc.) Please, include brand and model #'s?
What troubleshooting steps have you tried, so far?

I have a cable modem from Cablevision and run Windows XP on my laptop. My router is a Netgear WGR614v2. http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/wgr614v2.asp  It is a few years old but Dell said that shouldn't really matter.

With Dell we reset up my wireless network to make sure it was connecting to my network. And basically the typical, unplug the cable modem, router and restart everything again.  This has been going on for almost a year now. I pay for internet, so it is frustrating.

I am not sure if it is something in the settings that restricts certain sites and knocks me offline.  And the odd thing is, that it shows that my connection is still there, but AIM/MSN messenger goes out first, then any internet explorer pages get stuck. Once I reset the router, the pages will work. But it doesn't last for too long.

First off, try hardwiring(ethernet)your laptop to your router. Go to the same sites that are giving you the trouble? Does that work? If not, try bypassing your router completely? Hardwire your laptop directly to your modem?(If separate unit from router?) Does that work? Post back results?
Are you running any third party Internet Security software?(McAfee Security Suite, Norton Internet Security, Trend Micro PC-cillin, etc.)
