problems with my XPS

Question

Having problems with my XPS connectioning to the internet - checked cable modem and line they work on another machine - cannot renew IP address - cannot system restore - no communication for internet at all.  It says that my connection is on but we get nothing

Are you running a router or firewall program?  If so, try a direct connection.  Also try turning your computer all the way off and restarting with the new direct connection.  I would also turn off the firewall temporarily and see if that helps.  Report back after you try these.   Not being able to do a system restore is another issue not related to the internet, not sure what to tell you there.

we found a virus on our computer that Norton did not catch and have deleted it and it connects to the interent now but have not tried to do a system restore
