This has been an ongoing problem for several months, so the computer has been restarted many times. What or where is the "Device Manager"

Right click My Computer, select Properties, click on the Hardware tab, then on the Device Manager button.

Have you tried restarting your computer?   If you go into Device Manager and expand the listing for Network Adapters, does a wireless network adapter appear there?

Go to the following site and download the latest driver package for the Intel wireless card:

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>

Don't install it yet.  Now go into Device Manager, right clickt the Intel wireless adapter, and click on Uninstall.  Reboot the computer, cancel the New Hardware Wizard, if it starts, then run the file you just downloaded to reinstall the drivers and the Intel Utility.  Let me know if that fixes the problem.

Hi
I've had to reinstall XP onto my sisters Inspiron 6000 but when I now look on the device Manager I don't see any mention of Wireless Adaptors.

I tried downloading some drivers but how do I find the hardware name or what drivers do I need

Thanks
Fuzzy

go here

Enter her service tag and then go to the drivers and download page should list all drivers revelant to her system..look under network .the Broadcom drivers are for the ethernet connection..

Dell has used various wireless adapters over the years on this system...

I had a similar problem with a 'problem applying profile' message. Couldn't connect using the Proset / wireless.
Was able to get windows to manage the Wi Fi and reconnect to look for a solution.
The solution provided by volcano 11 also worked for me.
(Dell Inspiron 6400 about 15 months old)
