Re: Wireless Support

Have:  New Inspiron E1705 with Dell Wireless 1500 Minicard US for Inspiron

Have:  D-Link Wireless 108G MIMO  Model DL-634M

Unable to get on internet with this router.

Spent a lonnnngggg time on the phone with a Dell Hardware techie (in India).  She took control of my computer and did all kinds of things but nothing worked.
After over an hour of trying she finally told me that D-Link hardware is incompatible with the wireless card inside my computer.  I can hardly believe this is true, but I guess anything is possible.
If it is true, Dell did not say a word about any hardware in my Inspiron being incompatible with any exterior hardware I might add.

Osprey4 sent me to this forum.
Hope you can help.

How do I disable all encryption?

What are proprietary speed boosters, where should I check to see if I have any, and how do I disable them if I find them?

How do I switch to 801.11b compatibility?

Thanks,

Can you post more information? Like how far do you get trying to connect? Do you get a connection at all for your network and cannot access the internet because it cannot find the ip address? Tell us what happens when you try to connect to the internet with the wireless adapter. Also Dell posted a new link for wireless help here so look at that.

I gave you all the specs on my D-Link Router and my Dell internal wireless card.
Dell hardward support in India told me that my D-Link Router is incompatible with my Dell internal wireless card.  Can someone tell me if this is true?  I find it unbelievable.
A geek is not going to help me if it is true.

Okay, I've done some research for you. It seems that the router you have purchased is one of D-Links 802.11n devices. Here is the link to the D-Link web site for this device. As noted in the thread Draft-N vs. Pre-N (802.11n) the 802.11n protocol is not a wireless standard at this time and there are many different variants of this protocol. Each vendor will recommend that you use their products and they do this because they test and develop these devices to work together. Now as far as the DW1500 card that is in your system. This card is based on the current 802.11n (Draft-N) protocol and should work with other Draft-N devices. There was a recent update that was to help with the connection to Pre-N devices. Please make sure you have updated your device. Since 802.11n is only a protocol and not a standard each vendor has their own specifications for making a 802.11n device; therefore, one vendors device may or may not work easily with another vendor device. You may have to work with the various settings to get it to work the way you want.

I too am having issues with a d-link router.
I have a Lattitude D610 with the 1370 WLAN.
I'm using a D-Link DI-514 router.
I have disabled the XP WLAN utility,
The Dell Utility sees and configures the WLAN fine but drops out every few minutes.
It has to obtain a new IP each time it tries to connect.

I loaded a DWL-650 PCMCIA card and it works fine, but only if the 1370 is disabled.
I have used the DWL-650/DI-514 set up for years with no issues and have used the DWL in my
Dell LS400 for years everywhere with zero issues. What gives? I did install the above driver update..
