It's my daughter's computer....She has a Dimension E520 with Windows XP... According to her it work fine one day then the next she got the error that her win soc was corrupted...Could be her kids did something but who knows....Like I said I found instructions to reinstall win soc but it only shows how to do it with service pack 1 or 2 on computer she has service pack 3. I don't know if it makes a difference but since both are listed I assumed directions could be different with 3 installed...Can't download a fix because she can't get on internet until win soc is fixed. Thanks for responding

What system do you have?
What did you do, before getting that error message? Have you just reinstalled the OS - or what?
Whatever... a quick Google for 'WinSock' error?' found this 'Winsock XP Fix'.
Try that?

gmad,
It's a very small file, she can either download it to another computer and put the file on a flash drive/CD/DVD or she can do it manually.
Winsock2 How to determine and to recover from Winsock2 corruption in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, and in Windows Vista

gmad,
There may be an easier way.
Start, control panel, Networking and sharing center, view statis, diagnose.
