removing altnet

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with WINXP sp2 installed.  I have removed the Norton anti-virus program and have downloaded Spybot, Spyware blaster and Spywareguard.  When I run Spybot, I can not get rid of a virus called altnet.  The setting is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altnet and the virus is listed as a registry key.  When I try to remove it, I get a message telling me that ..."the file could not be removed because the associated files are still in use (in memory)"
Is altnet a virus to worry about?  I have tried running Spybot on restart as it recommended but it still can't remove altnet.   Any suggestions?

This is not really a network problem.  Try posting in the Spyware/Virus Information and Removal forum where the spyware experts hang out.

I believe Altnet is usually linked with Peer-to-peer network. I think it comes with programs like Kazzaa and other peer networks. You will have to uninstall these first inorder to get rid of it. I hope that I am correct and this helps.

Thanks for your help.  I have moved over to the spyware dept on this forum and, yes, we did have Kazaa on our computer.
