REPLACING MODEM PROBLEM -DIMENSION 4100
I was replacing my pci modem with an external modem. Everything went fine except, I need a filler bracket when I remove the modem card. MUST I REMOVE THE MODEM CARD? I left it in and just removed the installation but it keeps getting reinstalled. Just taking it out will leave a hole there. If I must take it out, where can I get a( filler bracket). I tried different computer stores and radio shack but they don't carry them. HELP

Leave the modem inside the PC. Go to Device Manager and disable the PCI modem.

Can I just leave both enabled and installed and pick the one I want to use. Seems like a hassle. I had no problems with the same situation on my Win98SE PC. But, I do remember I had to disable something else (I don't remember what) in order for the internal modem to stay disabled. Is there something else that has to be disabled?

Go into Device Manager\Modem and disable the modem. Technically, you can go into the Dial Up property, select the modem you want to use, and dial-out. I have a software-based Conexant modem and a USR 5610B hardware-based modem. Both modems are active. I just go into Network Connection, click the DUN account\properties and choose the modem that I want to use to dial out. You can also set up two different DUN accounts...one for each modem.
