Resolved

I just wanted to update on my Inspiron 1520 wireless issue of the signal dropping  - the card was bad.   I replaced the intel card (because a little google fu indicates this is happening with them) with the Dell wireless card, and the problem immediately stopped.

Thanks for the suggestions as well.  I needed some updating in that department.
