Which make and model router is it? If it is a Dell True Mobil, then you have found a bug that is well documented on these forums. The solution is that you do not need any software to set up the router. Consult the Users Guide and use the Web Based Configuration Utility to set up the router.

You don't need to download anything. The web page exists on your router. Open a web browser and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar. Then read your user's manual to figure out how to use the configuration utility.

It is unclear from your message whether or not your problem is solved. You say you can now get online. Can you get into the router configuration utility? What is it you think you need to do to set up the router?
