Router installation
I purchased a new Dimension 9100 with XP MCE 2005. My internet connection is cable. I tried to install a Netgear wireless cable router and when that failed, I tried to install a Linksys wireless cable router, also with no success. In each attempt I used an ethernet cable connection between the computer and router and between the router and cable modem. I followed the CD instructions to the letter on both, called technical support for each router, and I used the Dell Chat. I also talked to people in India with no success when I tried to set up the Linksys router. I also downloaded the software, NetSet, from Linksys to no avail.
I could establish a network connection between the computer and router and between the cable modem and my cable internet provider. However, after doing this, I could not get the computer to connect to the internet. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

One a wired connection, make sure you are connecting back thru one of the switch side ports (1-4) and not the WAN port to setup the router.
Probably a good idea to reset the router to get back to square one.
On the Netgear you would go to : http://192.168.0.1 with a username of admin and no password
Linksys would be: http://192.168.1.1 with a user name left blank and password of admin
The following tells you how to setup the security once you get connected.
