Try updating the firmware on the router.

Already has the latest firmware. Another thing is, is that modt of these network help/ solutions show the main pc to be wireless too. Well, ours is wired to the router and the laptop is wireless. Could this be our problem? If so, is there a way round it?

You did not indicate what type of connection you have, but if it is DSL, there is a setting on the router that can keep the signal continually dialed in and "alive".  That setting should be set to "0" (zero).  It is commonly referred to "Time to Keep Alive"

meaning aside from the router you have a modem that allows to to connect to the internet, is that correct? if that is the case please make sure that your modem should be on bridge mode every time it is connect to your router. and set the proper settings on your router depends what type of connection you are using with  your ISP...
