router or hub

what is best have a hub that cable tech said is bad unable to connect 2nd computer suddenly
 
told me to get router rather then hub what is difference? which is better? do they use same cables to set up have rj45 cable now hate to have to rewire system

A router is far superior to hub.  With a hub, your ISP has to issue two IP address.  Many ISPs charge extra for the extra IP address, and if they have not been charging extra, could cut you off from the second IP address at any time.  Furthermore, a router provides a hardware firewall that offers additional protection from hackers that is not provided by a hub.

if i get router second ip fee is waved at 5 bucks monthly

That will pay for the router in about 6 months.
