router problem
Hello all, I have a netgear router(mr814v2) wireless with 4 ethernet ports that is connected to a dell 5150-e510 with winxp sp2 media center 2005, which is my host computer. This pc & my hp running windows xp sp2 are running ethernet cables to the router & my labtop is wireless, all sharing a dial up connection. Anyway on the router i do not have a internet cable running from the router to anything
should i have a cable running from internet port to my network adapter on my dell computer?
#2 The biz across the street from me is getting a microwave wireless service soon, when they do, what do i need to be able to connect wireless to them or will my wireless router pick it up automatically? Its going to be about 350 ft away from my house. Will need to put in wireless network adapters in both my desktop computers? thank you for your help

If you are trying to share a dialup connection, then you should have Internet Connection Sharing enabled on the dialup connection on the computer that will make the dialup connection. The computer should then be connected to the router by an ethernet connection to one of the LAN ports on the router and the router should be set up to run in access point mode, rather than router mode. This is because when the router is in running in router mode, it acts as a DHCP server and since Internet Connection Sharing also acts as a DHCP server, you cannot have two DHCP servers running on the same network.
I don't know what you mean by "microwave wireless" The wireless cards that you have run on a 2.4 Ghz wireless frequency that has a range of about 300 feet under direct line of sight conditions.

Since I don't have a Netgear router and you do, I will have to rely on you reading the router's user's guide to determin how to set it up in access point mode. Once it is set up that way, Internet Connection Sharing will assign the IP addresses to all other network cards so long as their TCP/IP properties are set to Obtain an IP address automatically.
