UPNP will only work if the application (the game), the operating system, and the router support it.  If this isn't the case, you must manually forward the ports that clients are trying to connect on (and I don't know what those ports are for your games).  also make sure to allow traffic on any software firewalls you may also have running

I've found no evidence that CS supports UPNP (very few programs do actually).  it's also worth noting that some routers only implement partial UPNP (which basicly means that with UPNP enabled you get a nice little icon you can click to invoke the router and that's it -- there's no port forwarding functionality).  I would personally turn the windows firewall off completely for testing purposes.  try forwarding the ports in the router's setup

well ummm...before i found out about upnp, i forwarded ports at the NAT section, port 27015 for a listen server and still others cant join...why would windows firewall block this when previously i used to make servers fine before gettin the router... I HATE ROUTERS . AT LEAST MINE
thnx for helpin so far:smileyvery-happy:

well absolute worst case, try putting your machine in the DMZ of the router and see if that makes it work...  that should determine if it's the router or not

DMZ in a high end router is usually a seperate subnet that is exposes directly to the internet.  It's used to expose servers to the internet (and thus bypasses the firewall) and also to keep the servers away from LAN machines (which are behind the firewall and thus protected).

in your router, DMZ will function by forwarding all currently non-forwarded ports to the machine in question.  there is usually a place in the router setup to list the IP address of the machine you want in the DMZ.  note that by putting the machine in the DMZ all ports are being sent to it so you effectively lose any protection your NAT firewall offered

is there no other safe way to just make my cs work? this DMZ stuff sounds risky. if  the subnet becomes exposed to the internet, will i be more at risk for hackers and stuff? ima noob.. i dont know anything..so for the ip to put in DMZ, iw ould put in 192.blah blah blah right?

the dmz is as risky as hooking your computer up directly to the net.  dmz is never necessary -- you just must forward the ports manually if you don't use it

o. well um my 27015 port is forwarded, the one for cs listen server and i can host one person and it says that i connected to their ip. but someitmes one of my friends cant see my server...and i cant host more than one person...is this a firewall issue?

firewalls would normally block everyone or allow everyone ...  not sure why only some would be able to connect
