Run Time error

Please Help!
Whenever I click on the Internet Explorer Icon, a 'Run Time Error message appears. The exact message is:

Run Time Error!
Program C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.ixe
This aplication has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more info.

Can someone on this message board help or do you know who I can contact to get help?!

Have you scanned your system for spyware with more than one antispyware program and removed all possible spyware?

No, I've only used AdAware. Should I run another scan? What kind?! I've always had Macs and didn't need to do this stuff before! I'm a fish in new water, any help would be welcome!

Thanks!

I did what you said and I was able to connect to the Internet through Explorer without the error message popping up. This is bad, right? Now what should I do and what does that mean?

One thing you do as a troubleshooting step before going deeper into the spyware issue is to go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Internet Options.   Click on the Advanced tab then remove the check mark in front of "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions".  If that solves the problem, then you know that you have picked up something bad.   If that's the case come back here for further advice.

What this means is that some form of spyware has installed a browser helper object on your computer and when it tries to load, it crashes Windows.   You need to figure out which object is doing this, since you likely have other browser helper objects that you want to be able to run.   To do this, go Here and follow the directions to download and run the analysis tool called HijackThis. Generate a log file, then open it and copy and paste the text of the log file in a message in the HijackThis forum where a HijackThis expert can offer advice on how to fix the problem.
