Set up problems with Phone Tools
I am running Classic phone tools 4.17 on two different Dell Computers.
Both computers have XP sp2 installed on them.
Both computers have XP sp2 installed on them.
Each computer has Phone Tools pinned to the start menu thus it is always on & shows an icom in display bar.
The first computer is an Optiplex 270. Phone tools runs great on this system.
If my computer is in Hib. and a call comes in,

If my computer is in Hib. and a call comes in,
Phone tools will bring my system out of Hib. & answer the call record a voice message or receive a fax.
On my other Dell which is a Dimension 667, I cannot get Phone tool to answer if the Dimension machine is in standby or hib state.
What setting have I missed on the Dimension system to allow Phone tools to bring the system out of Hib or standby to answer the call.

EggmanBriggs,
Depending on the specific model of your computer (L, XPS T, XPS B,...) there may or may not be a way to have the system wake from standby or hibernate for an incoming call. Check in BIOS and see if there is a Wake-On-Lan setting or PME setting for your particular system. For info on the BIOS of the systems mentioned above, check the following links:
L series:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dmum/syssetup.htm
XPS T series:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dkub/syssetup.htm
XPS B series:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dmag/syssetup.htm
Even though the BIOS setting may refer to Wake On Lan, a modem can also generate the same wake signal to the computer.

EggmanBriggs.
If you have enabled power management and PME on your Dimension system, this is all that you should have to do. Not all Dell systems (especially Dimension systems) use or support Wake-On-Lan through a modem. It may not be a supported feature on your particular Dimension system. Also, not all modems will attempt to wake a computer on an incoming call.

Thank you for all your help. It is almost working correctly now. One step I discovered that I had missed was to use the advance feature section of my modem. That was to enable the modem to bring the computer out of stand by to receive info. I also made the changes in my bios. Plus I changed the plug & play settings to allow widdows to control these devices. System seems to boot faster with this setting set to yes.
Phone tools will now answer my call while the system is in standby. It does not turn the monitor on, but it does record the message. Hacent tried sending a fax this way yet. It still won't bring the system out of hib though. Running the Dell modem test prior to changing the plug & play setting, modem test say I have a no supported or recognized modem. Yet the name given to my modem driver is a Dell Data Fax Modem. My Opti modem is different. It is run by a conex modem. I dont know if this is a problem. I've tried uninstalling the modem on the Dimension but Windows keeps installing the same modem driver.
My final attempt will be to run check disk & see if that corrects anything.
I appreciate you taking the time to help me & from a look at your profile you have been helping people for quite a long time now.
People like yourself & Bob P. at C net truly are a blessing for many.
Thanks again!
