Setting up a home network
Hey
I have a main computer, a linksys WRT54g router which is connected to it and my broadband through wires, and a wireless E1505 Laptop. I want to make it were I can access files on my main computer, through my laptop.
I tried the "Set up a wireless network for a home or small office", but the problem is, my router doesn't have a usb port in the back of it.
If I just run the files on my laptop, will the network still work? (The WEP key is allready in the router)

Anyways, it says when your making it that your supposed to use a USB flash drive to put the files on, then plug it in the wireless access point, then, each computer.
So, my question was, if my router is allready set up, do I have to plug it in? (Because I can't) Will it affect making the network?

What does the USB port (or lack thereof) have to do with anything? Does your broadband modem only have a connection through a USB port? If so, then you will need to replace the modem with one that can connect by USB as it is impossible to find a router that can connect by USB.

I don't understand what you are running that would require a USB flash drive. Such a drive is not necessary for networking. Since your router is already set up, all you need to do is enable File and Printer Sharing on all network cards, designate drivers and/or folders as shared resources, and make sure any firewall you have running is configured to allow local network access. See the tutorials at www.homenethelp.com

So long as the firewall is configured to allow local network access and drivers and/or folders are designated as shared resources, then the drives and/or folders will show up automatically in My Network Places.

The wizard is a pretty dumb wizard. If you answer one question wrong, it will result in the network not working. Use the site I linked in my list post to set up the network manually. You will also learn a thing or two about networking by doing it manually.
