Setting up a network to share files and printer

Question

I have a Dell inspiron 6000 connected to the internet by a lynksys wireless router which is connected to dell desktop. desktop has files and a printer that i would like to access wirelessly.....have looked at several sites and am still having trouble understanding how to set thins up.  Set-up:   internet out of wall to router...uj 45 to desktop...wirelessly to laptop...all are connected to internet w/ no problems.  How do i set up the network to achive what i want?!!!   thanks in advance

the reason i am having problems is that the desk top at our football office (which is where i want to set up the network) has a "network bridge; MACbridge miniport". I don't want to change the settings too much on this desk top because it belongs to the university.....but i do want to have a network set up and have permission for it. The bridge is what is different then what is at the web site you suggested.
