I was told that is normal when the 2100ap is set to repeat mode, it should not ping with its IP address. If you are using a DLink card, use the site survey utility and you should see both MAC addresses, the one from your original 624, and the MAC from the new inserted 2100a. Then you might have to create a profile from the client's nic utility to force the client to use the 2100ap device.
Also you might do a site survey with the mentioned utility also, you might be placing the 2100ap to far away from your original signal on the 624. You might set the 2100ap midway on that floor and see what you get.
As far as the DHCP, I don't think you have to enable the 2100ap as a DHCP, it should pass from the 624, or use static IPs to test with. Configure both 624 and 2100ap with the same ssid and channel, disable Super G, and set preamble to long on the 624.
I have the same set up right now...with a ISP8600, with the intel pro wireless 2200bg adapter. It doesn't seem to see the repeater as far as I can tell. And since I don't have a dlink card in the laptop, I don't have the site survey utility...
