Setting up network but cannot see workgroups

Question

I've been searching for days and have tried several things (disabling firewall, ect) but can not seem to find out way I can not see the computers in my peer-to-peer network.  I know I have the connection, I have the folders shared.  I'm sorry if this has been covered but I've been going around in circles.  Please help direct me!

you can always connect to them via name/ip address, for example goto My Computer make sure search bar is on and type in \Tado1\c$ or 10.0.0.15\c$ etc. Then just map to that drive. Beyond that are you sure that both pcs are in the same workgroup?

I'm assuming that if both computers had the same workgroup name that when connected through a wireless network I should be able to go to my Wireless Network Place, click on view workgroups, both computers should be there.....is this correct?

ping is a DOS command that sends packets from a host to a client and confirms a response. You use it by going start run cmd (or command.com on older pcs) and typing ping (10.0.0.5) or (blipblop.com) etc.

Actually I don't believe peer to peer gives both pcs an ip address, since the 2nd computer is using internet through the 1st and not talking to dhcp. Check ip config on both pcs, if only 1 has an address make sure it is set up to allow other computers to connect to the internet through it/connect it it period.

I tried the ping again and I am unable to ping the other computer.  I'm using a wireless connection, with a peer-to-peer.  The connection is excellent?!  I can ping my computer and see my computer on the workgroup but not the other????

I want to make sure that what I'm thinking is my ip address is shown when I ping?

I get reply from: 169.xxx.xx.xxx I do have one of the computers set to allow the network computers to use it's Internet connection but the other I do not.

169.254.xxx.xxx means that you are not receiving an address, windows is assigning itself an address. Is this the address listed under you Ethernet Adapter or your wireless ethernet adapter? You may wish to try setting both pc's ip addresses statically to like 192.168.0.2 and 0.3 with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and see if you can ping the other pc after that.

Sorry - I just had to change back to the old view and I found it.  It is the one that is assigned to the wireless!
