Setting up printer for wireless notebook
Would someone be so kind as to let me know which settings to change on my wireless laptop and my wife's host desktop so that I can print on her printer? I would be grateful and it would save me the $99 technical support requested to give me this information. Thanks a million, Swiss Volunteer

On your wife's computer, go to Start > Printers and Faxes, then right click on the Printer you want to share over the network and click on "Sharing" from the drop-down menu. Select - Share this Printer, then type in a name for the printer (don't use any spaces in the name). OK your way out. Next, right click on My Network Places and select Properties from the drop down menu. Right click on the network connection over which the printer will be shared and again select Properties from the drop down menu. Make sure that File and Printer Sharing is present in the Network components window and that it is checked.
If that compujter is running Windows XP with SP1, disable the Windows XP firewall. It will not allow File and Printer Sharing. If it is running Windows XP with SP2, make sure that the Windows XP firewall has File and Printer Sharing checked off on the Exceptions tab. If you are running any third party firewalls, like those provided by such programs as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, or McAfee Security Suite, make sure they are configured to allow local network traffic.
On your computer, wait for 10 or 15 minutes and see if the shared printer shows up in the Printers and FAXes folder. If it doesn't, then you will have to install it as a network printer. Click on Add Printer, then click on Next and then select to add a network printer or printer attached to another computer. On the next screen Browse for the printer. If it finds it, be prepared to install the drivers for that printer.
