Sharing a printer on home network

I have a Dimension 4400 with an HP 5610 attached via a USB port.  I have a linksys WRT54G router that is hard wired to both the 4400 and my work laptop, which runs xp pro.

I want to be able to print from my laptop to my 5610.

I have both computers in the MSHOME workgroup but when I click on the 4400 from my laptop it says permission denied..  Same thing from the 4400..

Need some help but not sure with what..

Thanks.

On the computer to which the printer is attached, open the Printers and FAXes folder, right click on the printer, and select Sharing from the drop-down menu.  Follow the instructions to enable sharing of the printer.   Also on the computer to which the printer is attached, open Network Connections, right click on your Local Area Connection, select Properties and make sure the box next to File and Printer Sharing has a check mark in it.  On all computers, make sure that any third party firewalls (Norton, McAfee, Zone Alarm, etc.) are configured to allow local network access.  Then install the printer as a network printer on any computer that will connect to the printer accross the network.

Hi Steve,
  I did this...

Only have Symantec Client Firewall running on my laptop so I did this too

On all computers, make sure that any third party firewalls (Norton, McAfee, Zone Alarm, etc.) are configured to allow local network access.

When I try to add the printer on the laptop, it shows my Desktop name, but does not show the printer name..  This is where I am stuck..

Then install the printer as a network printer on any computer that will connect to the printer accross the network.

If there are still any firewalls that are not configured to allow local network access, it would explain your inability to find the printer on the network.   As a troubleshooing step, temporarily disable the firewalls.

Hi Steve,
disabled SCF on my laptop.  Windows firewall is turned off on the desktop and on the exceptions tab, share printer is checked and on the advanced tab nothing is checked..

  Same result, no access..
