Sharing Printer
:smileysad:I want to use my A940 Dell all in one printer for both my laptop and desktop. I have a Netgear router and an Inspiron 6000, Deminision 2400 desktop, Westell modem. Does anyone know how I can do this? It looks like I have only one connection for the printer. Thanks, Dana

If the printer is connected to one of the computers on the network, then no, you don't need to connect it to the router. Unless the printer is one specifically designed to be used on a network (i.e. it has its own ethernet card), then you will not be able to connect it to the router.

On the computer that is connected directly to the printer, open the Printers and FAXes folder. Right click on the printer you want to share and select "Sharing" from the drop-down menu. Select "Share this printer" and give the printer a name that it will be called on the network. Make sure any firewall that you have running on that computer is configured to allow local network access.
This shared printer should show up in the Printers folder on the other computers. If it doesn't show up, you can use the Add Printer wizard on the other computers to install the printer as a network printer attached to another computer.
