Is there a firmware update for that modem?  Frankly, I've never heard of these people and it oculd be they are a little behind the ball on being SP2 compatible.

I checked and this is Scientific Atlanta and I do know them very well thur AFN.  Their site is well stocked with trouble shooting and help pages.

Just exaclty what system do you have from Dell?  This is beginnings to sound like a NIC driver issue.

Since spyware has many strange effects on computers, have you eliminated all spyware/malware from your system?

We had exactly the same problem with Webstar and Windows XP SP2 on Dimension 5000.  After having been advised of various solutions by the broadband provider, none of which worked, we finally were told the best way round this was to disconnect the USB connection and connect the Webstar via a network card using a straight-through Ethernet cable.  We did this this 2 days ago and the problem has not re-occurred since.   Good Luck!

If you already have a network card on your computer, you simply need to buy a straight-through Ethernet cable (NOT crossover).  Turn the Webstar off at the socket, unplug its USB connection both ends.  connect the Ethernet cable to the Webstar and the network card at
the back of the computer (connection looks the same as the one on the back of the Webstar).
To check if you have a network card, go to Control Panel - Network Connections.
Network cards are quite cheap to buy and easy to install if this screen shows you dont have one.
This procedure eliminates the use of the Webstar drivers, which are what is causing the problem.
We haven't had this problem since.......Let us know how you get on!
