Silly Modem Question
I'm buying a new internal modem for my computer and i've noticed some work with
blue cross blue shiields server and some don't
Whats the difference between a regular modem and a telephony modem ??

The modem would not be an issue with someone's server. The modem is only the device to get you from your PC to your ISP, it does not "commuicate" with a server, that is a function of other communicatons/internet software on your PC (e.g,. your browser).
Another example would be your car does not get you to "Sears". It only provides the transportation between your home and the parking lot. That's basically what a modem does.

It depends on the context used. Some call any Modem a "telephony" modem. Others refer to a "telephony" modem as one that has voice capability. We would know in what context you are referring to, before we can make an "educated" guess.
I've worked with commercial modems and data since 1973. In all cases I've run into a that would just refere to a modem that would work on a "voice grade" telephone line.
