Simple Ques- Newbie-Please help
How can I check whether or not I have an internal wireless card installed in my Dell XPS 400 (about 2-4 year old desktop)? I've gone into the Device Manager, and I see "Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Connection." Is this a wireless card or something else?
Sorry for the "dumb question"...please keep the answer simple, too. Thanks in advance!

Most desktop computers are not been shipped standard with a wireless network adapter. The device shown in your Device Manager is not a wireless network adapter, it is an ethernet network adapter. Unless you special ordered a wireless adapter when you ordered your computer, it is not likely to have one. If you need a wireless adapter, you can either purchase a PCI wireless adapter to install internally or a USB wireless adapter to plug into one of your USB ports.

Thanks so very much!
Do you have any suggestions as to the type of USB wireless adapter? Note that I have a Linksys Wireless-B Broadband Router attached to this same desktop.

You probably won't be able to find a strictly 802.11b USB adapter these days, but any 802.11b/g USB adapter will work. Since you have a Linksys router, it might be a good idea to get a Linksys USB adapter. That way if you have problems and need help from the manufacturer you won't get them blaming the manufacturer of the other device, as often happens with tech support people.
