Are you trying to get to the configuration utility on the router through a wireless connection or through a wired connection. You should connect to the router's configuration utility through a wired connection. Did you enable any of the security settings on the router (MAC address filtering / WEP or WPA encryption)? If so, disable these until you get the wireless connection to work. Also, you don't say whether or not the USB wireless adapter you have is compatible with the Pre-N aspects of the router. If you not sure, disable all of the Pre-N stuff on the router until you get it to work.
Well I'm not sure but I think MAC address filtering was what I fiddled around with before it messed up earlier today, but I definitely changed something in utlities.
I'm on the net now through a wired connection and have no idea how to get to the routers utility page since I think I need my ip to get onto it? And I don't have a proper ip at the moment.
The USB adapter worked fine with the router until I altered the connection today so I imagine it would be compatible.
I'm confused about all of that changing between Access Point and Peer to Peer. What are you trying to do here? I also don't understand why you changed the IP address to Static. Change it back to DHCP! Have you tried uninstall the software for the USB wireless adapter, rebooting, then reinstalling the software? Make sure you reinstall the software with the USB network adapter not plugged into the computer.
Well I have an ethernet cable connected from the router to my computer. Then an ethernet cable from the router to the modem. Then modem/router both plugged in etc.
I was accessing the utility tool with that ip earlier but when I was messing around with things in the utilities I must have somehow changed it.
I've taken a look in the guide and can't see anything different to what you suggested might have changed.
In network connections I've just got 'Local area connected' connecting me to the net whilst 'wireless network connection' is enabled but not online.
Are you connecting to the internet through a wired connection to the router? If so, then you are accessing the router and should be able to enter the configuration utility on the router. Look in the user guide for the router. All my Belkin routers have the configuration utility at 192.169.2.1, but I don't have a Pre-N router and Belkin may have changed things with newer router versions.
Try resetting the router to its default settings by pressing and holding the reset button on the router. If you changed the IP address of the router this would explain why you cannot access it with the 192.168.2.1 IP address. Resetting the router should change it back.
I held the reset button down but it did'nt have an effect, it still won't find it a network address and the autoip that is given doesn't take me to the utilities.
Turns out I just hadn't resetted the router properly (didn't held down the button and turn it off and on at mains). But once I did that it just got me back on the net straight away.

To get to the router's configuration page, open Internet Explorer on the wired computer and type http://192.168.2.1 into the address bar.
