Simple question...
Just bought the Inspiron 6000 and the Linksys wireless router. Called a buddy of mine and asked about locking up the wireless signal so I'm the only one that can use it. He asked me what my Mac address was and I have no idea how to find it on my laptop. I can find the Routers mac address. Once I find it will that help with securing my network?
Thanks,
Andrew

no, mac filtering is next to worthless in terms of security. it won't stop anyone from viewing your data. it will only stop a very dumb neighbor from actually using your internet connection.
You need to enable encryption on your network -- preferably WPA-PSK or WPA2=PSK. check the router documentation or call linksys for information on how to do this. Generally you type in a passphrase on the router and on the client computer. Try to make this passphrase long, random, and otherwise hard to guess as hackers can run dictionary based attacks against it.
