if both names show under my network places, it might just be, because its cached the icons. in which case c/doc settings/user/nethood delete folders there and then refresh your local work group...

thats how i get my pc to update shared, and old shared folders

Google for a program named NewSid and run it.  It will the the SID (System Identifier) on the machine and you cane also rename it in the process.

I will just copy/paste:
 
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> administrative tools -> Local security policies.
Do you have User right assignement there? In those find "Deny access to this computer from Network". Delete Guest and/or everything from that.
then open security options (next group of parameters) and find "Network access: Let everyone permission apply to anonymous users". Enable it.
Do it so on all PC's.
Turn on guest login.
Still have problems? Try to use tha same username (login) on all the Windows. for example - user.
Have you shared the folders on XP home PC's with the wizard? Don't do that ever again :-)
Be carefull with all that sharing, if you are not behind a router or lack security thru wireless, someone can get to your files.
