Slow Connection

I just got my new Inspiron 9300 yesterday, and I'm really impressed with it...except that the modem won't connect over 28.8k, and most of the time it's 26.4. It's a Conexant D110. I know it's not the phone line/ISP because I can get on my desktop and get 44-49k. I've also run all the spyware checks and updated my drivers and I still can't get over 28. Anybody have any idea what else to do?
Thanks!

Hello,

I am having the same slow connection problem with my Dell 5150. It has a Conexant MDC V.9x modem.

Did you ever find out why you could not connect at anything above 28800 baud rate?

Thanks.  Please let me know.

I have the same modem and the same problem. My modem is the Conexant HDA D110 MDC V.92, it came with the Inspiron e1505 I purchased last week. I always get 24 kbps, never more, sometimes less. My desktop (using the same phone jack) gets 48 kbps EVERY time, sometimes even 49.2 kbps. Dell told me that I did not have software customer support (???) and that for the low low price of $238 they could help me. They also said that because my system has low memory, I needed to delete the programs that came preinstalled on my laptop. Hmmm, I thought a gig of RAM was pretty good for memory (should be, it cost quite a bit to upgrade to that spec). Well screw that. Besides, I did a clean reinstall of XP right out of the box to eliminate all the junk Dell puts on their products. Earthlink told me that I need to update my drivers, which I did. I went through the whole lowering connection speed, typing in various init strings, etc, but nothing worked. I'm guessing the modem is junk -- seems to be a running theme with these Conexants. I even read on one board that Dell doesn't even try to troubleshoot them... it's cheaper to just replace them.
